The process
Step 1
Pre-treatment matching
We measure your head and take a cut sample and colour match before treatment starts, so we are working from your real hair, not a photograph or a guess.
Step 2
Cap design
A breathable, seam-free cap construction chosen for comfort against a scalp that may become sensitive, swollen or sore during treatment.
Step 3
Manufacture
Hand-tied to your match on a rushed timeline where your treatment date requires it.
Step 4
Fitting & adjustment
A gentle, adhesive-free fitting, plus a walkthrough of everyday wear and a standing offer of free refits as things change.
When a cancer patient wig is the wrong answer
We would rather lose an order than fit the wrong system, so here is where this service stops being the right purchase.
A full medical wig is more than you need if you are only experiencing thinning rather than expecting full loss — some chemotherapy protocols cause partial thinning rather than total loss. If you are unsure what your specific protocol will do, tell us and we will help you decide between a wig and a topper rather than sell you the bigger option by default.
It is also the wrong order to delay. The biggest mistake we see is waiting until hair has already gone to order — at that point we are matching from a photograph rather than your real hair, and colour, density and grey percentage all become approximate. Order as soon as treatment is confirmed, even if the first appointment is weeks away.
Aftercare schedule for a cancer patient wig
The purchase price is only part of what you commit to. This is the servicing rhythm that keeps a cancer patient wig at the top of its lifespan range rather than the bottom.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| First 1-2 weeks | Comfort check. We confirm the cap sits well against hair that is starting to shed, and adjust padding or sizing if the fit needs to change. |
| As needed through treatment | Free refit. Scalp sensitivity, swelling and hair regrowth pattern can all change how a cap should sit — refits are included, not charged separately, for the length of your treatment. |
| Ongoing | Wash and care guidance suited to daily wear, including how to keep the cap comfortable against skin that may be more sensitive than usual. |
| Regrowth phase | A plan for transitioning off the wig as your own hair returns, or keeping it in rotation for security during the patchy regrowth stage — whichever you prefer. |

Wigs for Cancer Patients — questions we get asked
- Should I order before or after chemotherapy starts?
- Before, if at all possible. Matching from your own hair while you still have it gives a far more accurate colour, density and grey blend than matching from a photograph after the fact.
- Will insurance or FSA/HSA cover this?
- We provide a cranial prosthesis letter that many US insurers, FSA and HSA administrators accept for reimbursement. Coverage rules vary by provider, so check your policy, but we handle the paperwork on our side.
- Does the cap use adhesive like a hair system?
- No. Medical wigs are built to grip through fit alone, not bonding, so there is nothing adhered to a scalp that may be sore, sensitive or healing.
- What if my head shape changes during treatment?
- Refits are free for the length of your treatment. Swelling, sensitivity and hair regrowth all change how a cap should sit, and we would rather adjust it than have you stop wearing it.
