What are the downsides?

Least breathable in humidity. Thinnest grades tear first at the perimeter. None of those are dealbreakers on their own, but they are the reasons we would move you to a different specification if your circumstances did not fit.

Choosing skin hair patch in the UK, US and Australia comes down to three things: base material, hair quality and who fits it. A thin polyurethane base, 0.03–0.08 mm, that sits directly on the scalp and reads as skin at the parting. The most invisible option and the easiest to clean.

Living with it: skin (poly) base care

Wipe the underside with a citrus-based remover after every removal - adhesive left on poly hardens and tears the base at the next removal.
Never peel a skin base off dry. Soak the perimeter, wait, and lift from the back.
Store it flat or on a block, not folded. Poly creases become splits.
Expect to re-tape the perimeter before the rest of the base is worn out; that is normal, not a defect.
